Nos complació descubrir que las PP tienen un excelente potencial para solucionar las deficiencias de nutrientes. Un impresionante número de 154 de las 240 PP de las que teníamos datos sobre nutrientes era superabundante ("muy alta" o "extremadamente alta") en al menos un nutriente, y con frecuencia en más de uno. De hecho, ¡23 especies (el 10% de las PP para los que encontramos datos) eran superabundantes en cuatro o más nutrientes clave necesarios para tratar las deficiencias! Nos interesó especialmente observar que los árboles con hojas comestibles eran superabundantes en más nutrientes que cualquier otro tipo de PP.
