Underutilized Tropical Crops

Another category not listed here is underutilized tropical crops, also referred to as orphan or neglected crops. This is a broader category of crops that overlaps with most other categories. You can read more about these in ECHO's Technical Note on Underutilized Crops for Small Farm Abundance. These crops are available from the ECHO Global and Asia seed banks. You can search for the specific crop once you have determined which one you would like.

Introducing New Seeds

Although often well-meaning there are many considerations to weigh before introducing a new seed to a community or region. Make sure to evaluate a seed's potential to be weedy or invasive, the likely cultural acceptability of the crop, and other factors impacted by crop selection. For more ideas to consider, read ECHO's Technical Note on Introducing New Seeds.
