Bugwood Images is a grant-funded project that was started in 1994 by the University of Georgia's Center for Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health. The website was launched in 2001 and has grown and received a great deal of recognition since then.

Bugwood Images provides an easily accessible archive of high quality images for use in educational applications. It is made up of five major website interfaces. These are ForestryImagesIPMImagesInsectImagesWeedImages, and Invasive.org.

The focus of Bugwood Images is on species of economic concern. Images cover invasive species, forestry, agriculture, integrated pest management, plants, insects, diseases, fungi, wildlife, fire and other natural resource issues. Images are reviewed for content and quality.

In most cases, the images found in this system were added to our database by photographers other than ourselves. Photographers retain all rights to their images but they have agreed to allow for non-commercial, educational use as long as the images are cited. The goal is for the photographs in this system to be used!

We have strived to provide accurate and correct identifications, taxonomy and descriptions. However, we recognize that invariably errors will occur and urge you, the user, to be the final quality control option. If you locate errors, correct them on your materials and please notify us of them so that we can correct them in IPM Images as well.

Currently Bugwood Images has 316,902 images, on 28,105 subjects with 2,618 contributing photographers. Bugwood Images also has a wide audience including growers, managers, researchers, diagnosticians, consultants, regulatory officials, educators, journalists and the general public from around the world.
