This plenary presentation will discuss how developing countries (especially Haiti) can be competitive in aquaculture production and protect their environment. Even though world food fish aquaculture rose to over 70 million tons in 2015, developing countries contributed less than 8% in volume and 3% in revenues. The plenary session will show that by duplicating the Haiti example in other countries it is possible to increase contributions in volume and in revenues.

Presenter - Dr. Valentin Abe is the founder of Caribbean Harvest and the Caribbean Harvest Foundation. He has spent more than 15 years developing large-scale production of tilapia and commercial fish farms in Haiti. Dr. Valentin has a Ph.D. in Aquaculture from Auburn University and is globally recognized as one of the most effective leaders making a difference in Haiti. He has been chosen as one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most influential People in 2010, the 2011 Digicel Entrepreneur of the Year in Haiti and the 2013 Auburn University Most Outstanding Alumni.
