Tewari, J. & Pasiecznik, Nick & Harsh, L.N. & Harris, P.. (1998). Prosopis Species in the Arid and Semi-Arid Zones of India. Proceedings of a conference held at the Central Arid Zone research Institute, Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India, November 21-23, 1993.

During the Prosopis conference at the Central Arid Zone Research Institute (CAZRI) held from November 21-23, 1993, it was felt by the participants that there is an urgent need to bring all the Indian Prosopis researchers together to share their experiences and expertise in various aspects of Prosopis research. With the active support of Dr Peter Felker of Texas A&M University, Kingsville, Texas, USA, the Prosopis Society of India was formed on the eve of the plenary session of the conference. The Society was started with forty members. Today, PSI has one hundred registered members. The society is still in its infancy and the domain of activities is limited to exchange of information among members regarding the R&D activities taking place in various parts of India involving Prosopis species. The Society plans to publish a half-yearly newsletter ‘Prosopis News’ from 1998. It is also planned to form a network with Prosopis researchers in the USA, Europe and South America. The headquarters of the Society are in the Silviculture Section, CAZRI, Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India.
