Contigo is a college freshman text that focuses on the practical and communicative role of language. While it emphasizes the essentials, Contigo nonetheless covers the basics. The text is fully integrated, teaching the four skills, through structures and situations that facilitate rapid understanding and communication. It is possible to practice to the maximum with the common spoken language, since more low-frequency constructions appear mainly as recognition elements only. As such, Contigo responds to the current foreign language trend that calls for a curriculum based on oral proficiency. Spanish at Contigo is simple but natural, with an emphasis on the language that best allows students to express their ideas, feelings, interests, and experiences.
