El camello, que era bien conocido como el barco del desierto y famoso como bestia de carga. La presión de la población y las intensas necesidades han cambiado el concepto de camello. Ahora, el animal juega un rol importante en el ecosistema diversificado. El camello proporciona un alimento valioso y tiene un rol peculiar en la cadena alimentaria. Tiene el suministro de alimentos para las personas que viven en un clima severo, especialmente para la población que habita el desierto profundo. Tiene atributos especiales que le permiten sobrevivir en climas duros, hostiles y cálidos, así como fríos, donde los otros animales no los tienen. Tiene la capacidad de funcionar y prosperar bien en aquellos climas donde incluso la supervivencia de otras especies de ganado es difícil. Estas virtudes le han dado al animal una gran importancia que podría ser la esperanza futura para superar la escasez de alimentos prevaleciente para la población.
