Acacia xanthophloea is a fast-growing semi-deciduous tree that gets up to 25 m that grows along rivers and lakes. This tree has greenish-yellow bark and the branches have white straight spines that are 6-7 cm long.The main uses are for for timber, polewood, firewood, erosion control, and as a landscape tree. The name fever tree comes from the mistaken idea that the tree caused malaria due to its presence in swampy mosquito infested areas. The tree provides protection for nesting birds and is also a host for many butterfly species. It provides light shade to other plants and bears yellow sweetly scented flowers.
