This manual has been compiled from the many publications and reports prepared by the various Divisions and Department of FAO and with the assistance of the professional staff of FAO Headquarters. The basic approach and methodology can be applied in all countries even though their climate, soils, topography, culture and social conditions may be different. It is hoped therefore that the manual will serve as a guide for specialists and planners working on comprehensive watershed development projects in the field. A number of examples are given which are specific to certain areas and environments. Adjustments may have to be made for other areas according to local conditions and environments.
