A prime objective of this text is to present information needed to more adequately address the important role of native species diversity in maintaining the socio-economic conditions of the local population as well as whatever delicate ecological balance remains in Haiti. The data compiled comes from various sources and include information gathered from publications directly relevant to Haiti, input from many individuals working in forestry related activities throughout the island of Hispanola, and personal experience.
