Strong gradients of decreasing soil fertility are found in many regions of the world. Millions of smallholders are now facing this serious crisis which causes them lower crop yields, and many of these families also suffer from food insecurity. With the aim of promoting recovering soil fertility in a sustainable way, the Canadian Foodgrains Bank (CFGB) by Roland Bunch launched a new book entitled "Restoring the Soil: A Guide for Using Green Manure/Cover Crops to Improve the Food Security of Smallholder Farmers" . This book synthesized Roland's extensive field-based research gathered from smallholder farmers around the world who incorporated green manure into their farming systems. It is written as a practical manual for farmers to maintain and improve soil fertility through the use of green manure/cover crops. The decision tree is offered as a step-by-step guide for farmers to identify and decide the most appropriate system to their work environment.
