Abstract, Sociedade Brasileira de Zootecnia, 2011
Predicted climate changes will affect the way in which sheep are farmed in tropical climates. While frequently animals are selected for individual production, this can affect the profit levels on farm through the need to modify the environment and production systems as these animals frequently have lower heat tolerance and higher susceptibility to diseases. Few published studies are available in Brazil, and these tend to be limited to few traits, production systems, breeds and environments. Future studies should look to modify the way in which traits are measured and look to including heat tolerance in selection schemes or in developing production systems.
