Africa’s agriculture along with its millions of small-scale food producers is up for sale - to the highest bidders. Millions of US dollars have been invested by (international) seed companies in African agriculture in a bid to control the seed sector on one hand. On the other hand, farmers have been engaged in a struggle to defend their farmer’s seed and to fight for political frameworks in favor of their seed. The continued monopoly of commercial seeds by a few corporate players and farmer dispossession of ownership is in effect a violation of national sovereignty and the right to food.
