Following a detailed examination of the morphology and anatomy of yams, the book looks in depth at the cultivation, classification, and marketing of the crop. The coverage given to each aspect of the production and structure of the yarm, of which there are approximately 600 species, is broad and includes, for example, the uses of the yam tuber, its growth and storage, pest control and cropping techniques and the results of research findings. The crop's history, distribution and the part that it plays within the various societies in which it is grown, are also examined.
