According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), harmful farming practices are responsible for 90% of global deforestation. These unsustainable methods degrade soil health, reducing crop yields and food security. As productivity declines, farmers often clear and burn more forests to create new farmland—trapping them in a destructive cycle that threatens both people and the planet.

By adopting sustainable and regenerative practices, family farmers help heal the planet while feeding their communities.

Sustainable Harvest International (SHI) has worked in four countries across Central America and currently operates a thriving program in Honduras. SHI’s programs continue to grow thanks to a dynamic board of directors, international staff, and a lively community of dedicated donors that allow locally-hired Field Trainers to keep doing their important work. Since 1997, SHI has worked with over 4,000 families and planted more than 5 million trees!
