Post Event Workshops

ECHO is offering a unique opportunity to go and learn from two local agriculture training centers near Managua, Nicaragua- Join us on Friday September 30th for a post-conference day of farm visits. We will tour and learn at the BioNica/ADAR/UNA training center - El Plantel, and also visit one of the region’s best examples of integrated, bio-diverse production - Rancho Ebenezer.

 

Lunch and transportation will be included! Cost is $40 USD

 

BioNica/ADAR/UNA

The core mission of BioNica has been to provide training in best practices in sustainable small-scale agricultural – particularly carbon-intensive methods to develop and maintain soil fertility in the tropics so that the soil is capable of growing crops without synthetic fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides BioNica and the Asociación para el Desarrollo Agroecológico Regional (ADAR) through a cooperation agreement with the Universidad Nacional Agraria  operate a training, research and demonstration center for agroecology and the biointensive method of sustainable agriculture. The tour of Finca El Plantel includes demonstrations of the basic principles of agroecology and the biointensive method of small-scale agriculture.

 

Rancho Ebenezer

Rancho Ebenezer is a farm with an integrated sustainable rural development strategy. The purpose of the farm is “to empower rural communities to solve their most pressing food and environmental problems.” Rancho Ebenezer does this by using a four-year methodology focusing on the diversification of production activities. Rancho Ebenezer is a regional leader in on farm composting through Vermiculture and intensive animal production.
