Agroforestry: Designing for Impact
Agroforestry is the agricultural practice of combining the management of annual crops and/or animals with trees. Agroforestry systems, largely composed of perennial crops, offer the resilience needed to address extreme climatic issues such as drought and torrential rain, along with social and economic factors that influence agricultural production of small-scale farmers.
This five-day course will introduce students to key agroforestry concepts, allow them to see the various agroforestry and perennial cropping systems at ECHO, and provide hands-on experience in agroforestry. A few of the agroforestry systems that will be included in the course are: Food Forests, Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration, micro-woodlots, Home gardens, and Sloping Agricultural Land Technology (SALT).

Registration Fee: $645.00 - Early Bird Rate
Spouse Registraiton Fee: $495.00 - Early Bird Rate
*All Registrations increase by $50.00 after June 17th, 2019
Registration fees include:
- Week-long course
- Meals (Sunday evening [July 14] through Friday evening [July 19]).
- Housing (Sunday night [July 14] through Saturday morning [July 20])
- You can check in on July 14 and check out on July 20
Registration does not include:
- Transportation to or from the Airport/bus station

Payment must be made online, within two weeks of registering, using a valid credit card.

Lodging is provided on campus.
- ECHO is a working farm, and lodging options include dormitory style.
- If you are a couple, ECHO will try to accomodate housing, but depending on course numbers, it may be necessary to house based on gender.

At this time we are not always able to accommodate those with special dietary needs or food allergies. Please let us know as soon as possible so that we can plan.

Cancellation Policy - ECHO Classes
Payment for ECHO classes is required at the time of registration. Due to the nature of the class, we require at least 2-weeks notice of cancellation to receive a full refund of your fees. If less than 2-weeks notice is given a refund will not be issued.
These courses are interest-driven, therefore we reserve the right to cancel an course due to lack of interest. Should a cancellation be necessary, we will do so two weeks before the first day of class.
Suggested items to pack:
It is always a good idea to bring a jacket or sweater. As there will be time built in for being on the farm and possibly working with our interns, bring a set of clothes that you don't mind getting dirty. A hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, water bottle and insect repellent would be good to include in your luggage. It may also be helpful to bring a flashlight to use in walking around campus after dark.
